Misery 9. Night of the Living Dead 8. Carrie 7. Silence of the Lambs 6. Shining 5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4. Psycho 3. Exorcist 2. Alien 1. Jaws Quite honestly, I'm not fully down with the list, but it's got some spooky stuff there. But, I mean, what's the deal with Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka being on there? Willy Wonka has one freaky moment, but I totally wouldn't stop my kids from watching it; and I definitely wouldn't park them in front of Candyman or Child's Play instead. Next point of order... Jaws. I mean, now, c'mon... it's a great movie, sure... but it's ALWAYS listed as the scariest movie of all time and though it was pretty freaky when I was little, by today's standards it's substandard. And Alien's a good choice for the top 10, not sure about number 2 though. Exorcist? That could make number 1, I reckon. Terrifying stuff. Rosemary's Baby should be way further up the list, but I can see how it gets so low... the horror and such in that movie is really built up from the fear, but with little action throughout (except for a scene where she gets totally raped by the prince of darkness while his followers stand around and egg him on). Blair Witch - well, let me just say I'm glad people came to their senses over that one eventually. It was never scary. EVER. It was a cheap ass movie with shoddy camera word and no real premise that one could understand. It was dumb, and it was only recently I found out people have started realizing it too. Nightmare on Elm Street freaked me out when I was little, and I still love being freaked by Freddy. I think the thing about the Freddy movies is that scary movies give you nightmares... but nightmares aren't real... but that's what the parents try to tell the kids in the movie, right? So how can I trust you mum, HOW CAN I TRUST YOU!!!?? Phantasm was alright, but kind of dull in parts. The same could be said for Last House On The Left. The rape scene and the eventually killing of the girls around the middle/beginning of the movie were freaky... the rest of it was just kind of boring. Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead are like the ultimate Zombie movies as far as I am concerned. If I see better ones, then I'll recant, but the original Night of the Living Dead - provided you're in the right state of mind for it - is mind blowing. Dawn of the Dead didn't try to repeat that formula, thank god, it simply relied on scares and gore, which worked too. Next in my random rants is Hellraiser. Gory stuff, totally out of this world freaky and all... but not much substance, and totally too many weird-ass sequels for me to even pay it much mind now. I've seen the more recent sequels, but they don't have the same feel to them as the original movie did. Also, The Hitcher... I never really saw it as a horror movie when I first saw it, but in retrospect: it totally is. It freaked the hell out of me! The premise for the film is an iffy one, but they executed it perfectly. They let you know that anything can happen with the death of a few key characters, and from then on you're not sure what that damn psychopath'll do. Speaking of Psychopath, freakin' Psycho is shit, ya'll. Some people find it hard to watch, my mum couldn't sit through it because of the shower scene (though most people now find it hard to watch because the opening 40 minutes are kind of dull), but while I watch Janet Leigh stealing that money and knowing what'll happen to her, I sit there thinking, daaaamn. You're in for it now. And then......................... no, wait, never mind. I'm done.

| That's actually what I was wondering when I first read the list, but I just ignored it hoping noone else wouldn't be thinking the same way as me. | |

| I remember Dolls. I think I saw it once when I was about 11 or 12. Kind of freaky. I remember someone getting stuck with a tiny arrow. Freaked me out for some reason. House I never got, to be honest. I don't think I've seen all of the movies they made, but the ones I did see didn't really excite me too much. | |

| I've not seen MOST of these movies. If you know from my comments from other threads, you know that I'm not into horror flicks. But, when I was younger, I did watch them. The scariest one, for me, as a kid... Terror Train, and it's not on the list. Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Amityville (not on the list), Aliens, Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, and Hellraiser.... those all scared me. | |

| It starts and ends with Halloween. Man, that movie had me so freaked out. I slept on the floor of my parents room for a week. That was way back in 2006. I think I've used that joke before. I'm getting old. -HECK! | |

| Halloween was scary... but there was something about Terror Train. I think that I have a harder time with horror flicks that aren't about aliens, or dead people. You know... someone who's just going around, killing people, because they are whacked in the head (but alive). It's more real to life, and that does me in.... always has. | |

| For me it's "The Exorcist" with Linda Blair.
I was scared when I was a kid watching it (edited) on TV. Then I grew some girly balls and rented it a few years back, the one they dubbed "Exorcist, the version you've never seen" and I crapped and peed more than the little girl in the movie who was possessed.
The scary scene for me was creepy voices from the demon and those demons behind the bedroom door when the priest was exorcising them.
The green puke, and the bed elevating, the nasty snot hanging from the girls nostrils, her evil eyes, and the crucifix thrusting you know where. Too much for me to handle. The fact that this was based on a true incident creeped me out and sent me to church for a week.(just a week...heh).
One movie not listed: "The Others". Although not gory or scary in the traditional sense. I kept thinking there were ghosts in my house and more so while drinking, "What if I were a ghost in my home?"
I did say I was drinking, eh? :loll:

I totally used to think the same thing when I was young. I should've written it down and sold the story idea before they did... damn it... Exorcists was cool, but to be 100% honest... It was one of the earliest horror movies I actually sat all the way through, and I didn't have nightmares or anything. Though perhaps it was edited for TV. I don't remember seeing her thrusting that crucifix between her legs...

| Yup, yup, I rewatched the movie when they rereleased it a few years back (2000, I guess). It was a tad more graphic than I remembered, but basically I knew what to expect. The priest dying at the end is always what frightened me the most. | |

| The Excorist freaked me out too. I especially had a VERY hard time when she (Linda Blair) starts stabbing herself, between her legs, and saying "Make Jesus **** me" over and over. It really bothered me enough that I can't watch that movie any more. It was just a bit too much for me. | |

| I want to make a correction. In my earlier post I mentioned I didn't see the movie "The Others" on the list, but I checked again and it was listed #83. My error. | |

| I have seen "The Exorcist" (unedited) one time. I am not interested in seeing it again. Oh, but I do like "Hellraiser" I've been watching those quite a bit lately. *wants to trap Pinhead inside of an escape proof, demon proof, shatter resistant, clear, glass box because he's just...so...awesome *There is one called "Hatchet" that isn't on the list. But I would say that that one is probably more gory than it is scary. I didn't find "The Fly" to be very scary, though the old black and white version did kind of creep me out when I was a kid. It was definitely one that had been burned into my memory after the first time I watched it. | |
