'Battlestar' movie

Universal Pictures has set Bryan Singer to direct and produce a feature version of "Battlestar Galactica.

It's not clear whether Ronald Moore, exec producer of the recent series, will be invited to write the screenplay, but Singer will clearly put his own creative stamp on the project, as the studio indicates that the film will be "a complete reimagination."

The original version of the series ran for two seasons on ABC beginning in 1978. Singer had long been intrigued with "Galactica" and flirted with relaunching it into a TV series right after he directed the original X-Men, Feb. 22, 2001). At the time, he was teamed to exec produce the series with Tom DeSanto and to direct the pilot of the new version.

The director got busy on other projects, but he was prescient, at the time calling the Galactica brand "a sleeping giant." Moore became the executive producer of the 73-episode series, which had a successful run on the then-Sci Fi Channel starting in 2004.

The move negates a prevailing rumor that Singer was flirting with the idea of returning to the X-Men series by taking the reins of "X-Men: First Class," which focuses on the younger mutant characters seen fleetingly at the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning.

Give the last version time to settle before 're-imagining' it man.

Bryan Singer rules, no doubt.

But Ron Moore just made 4 seasons Battlestar Galactica, one of the best TV series I've ever had the privelege to watch. It was a masterpiece, for the most part.

Why even try to make another 2-hour version of the 1979 show. Ron Moore just made the ultimate version. Nothing can ever touch it. Never.

I probably wouldn't see this shit in the theater. Not that I'm being salty about it. The original show was before my time, and I never watched the reruns growing up. I've probably seen just a few original BSG episodes.

There is no f'n way this movie can hold a candle to the greatness that Ron Moore and company made. Period.

I loved the original series.... grew up watching it, and never missed a single show. And have seen it several times over the years. But, as Heck stated... this updated BSG was the ultimate. To go back will be lacking so much. I don't think that Ron Moore's perfection can be replaced.
