Beckham out of world cup

David Beckham ruptured his achilles tendon laying for AC Milan this evening it's an injury that will keep him out of this summers world cup and with a recovery time of 8 months minimum he will probably miss the MLS season. I reckon this injury will sadly mark the end of Beckhams England career there are even some reports that suggest it may be the end of his career mainly due to his age and the fact that there is a chance that the tendon can rupture again after surgery.

Gotta feel bad for the guy he has worked hard to figure in Englands plans and to miss out is something you dont wish on anybody

Not being a Beckham fan I dont think of this as a bad thing for the England team.

Of course you have to feel sorry for anyone that gets injured after working hard to get back in to the international scene but he's really passed his best and doesn't do enough over the 90 minutes to justify his position in a top class side.

It's not so bad in the likes of the MLS or the Italian leagues where he can coast by on his skills as a set piece master and crosser but in a more physical environment like the Premier League or the Internationals where more effort has to be exerted then he just falls short of the mark and there are younger players in those positions for England now that are as good as him or better who England will get more out of in future years than him.

So, its a bad blow for Beckham but not necessarilly a bad blow for England.

I feel bad for the guy. He looked to have put in all the work necessary to book a tripp to the cup , then this.

I dont see it as a huge loss for England. He makes for a good tactical change off of the bench, but at this level he isnt much more than that.

I think it is a blow for England mainly because right midfield options are few and far between right now Lennon would have been the obvious choice but he is a doubt for the world cup as well, Joe Cole could go there but how much football has he had since his injury? There could be Walcott he brings pace but if we are being honest thats pretty much all he bring at the moment, Wright Phillips blows hot and cold and you need a stable performer in the WC and that's pretty much all Capello has to work with.

At the very least Beckham would have brought experience, vision that none of the aforementioned have and leadership something that we know England will need in South Africa I think Beckham would have made it and he would have played because prior to the injury he was better than the other options because they are either inconsistent, one dimensional ( for the most part) or not playing regularly I know people will say oh he only crosses well or takes free kicks well it's those things that can help you win games and I do think there is more to him I think his passing is better than most I think he has good vision with through balls etc and I think he is a leader with or without the armband, Capello would have taken him he has pretty much admitted that and in a World cup you take the players that are best equipped to do you a turn and Beckham is one of those players
