Whidden's all new Oklahoma Bird Picture Thread

I got a new Sony 15X Cybershot Camera in Early December,
and been taking lots of birds pictures
in the yard and on the porch.
I also plan to travel up to Oxley,
in North Tulsa, and try to get some pics
up there as well.

A male Cardinal, all fluffed up from the cold weather.

Female Cardinal, on a hanging basket I have sunflower seeds in.

Male Cardinal getting some seed off the front porch. Notice he has little bitty specks of green in all that red. When they are growing up and still teenagers, that green is a lot more pronounced.

Male Cardinal close up. You can see the sunflower seed in his mouth.

Golden finch from the front. This is the female, not as colorful as the male, but still has some strong yellow on it.

Tufted Titmouse getting some grub. Cool how you can see the sunflower seed in his mouth, beak, whatever.

A male House Finch (with the reddish purple head) and a Carolina Chickadee. (North of Oklahoma it's called a Black Capped Chickadee)

Carolina Chickadee. Cute little guy.

I think this is a Grackle. I got the best pic I could, then he flew away. Slightly out of focus, but I was so glad to get the pic, I will post it anyway.

A White Crowned Sparrow. He is just like a normal Sparrow, but has the white stripes on his head.

House Sparrow.

A Downy Woodpecker. Look forward to getting better pics of him later in the Spring.

I'm about 98% sure this is a Lark Sparrow, it's like the ealier white crowned, but the crown on top is brown and white, not black and white.

These are Cedar WaxWings. Awesome. I'v only seen them once before, and got a quick pic of them today in the back yard.

They have black batman masks, and a yellow tipped tail, and a red tipped wing, that looks like it got dipped in wax.

They are beautiful birds! I'm so jealous that we don't have beautiful birds around my home.

OT Damon has to do a report on a state, and I was sad that he wasn't able to get Oklahoma. He could have included a bunch of information about the birds. He got Missouri. The bummer is that I don't know anyone in Missouri, and if he has a postcard or souvenir, he gets extra credit.

I thought you had some relatives in Mo. Must have been Missisippi or some other M state.

I used to get up there about twice a year for church, it's about two hours drive up. It really is a neato state.

Check it! I learned something new. I noticed that the bird up top on the right has an orange tail, but I thought it was a trick of light, but I saw the article just now,and it says some of them eat certain honeysuckles, and the yellow tip will be orange. Whidden goes in nerd mode, starts gettin happy.

Sounds like how flamingos are actually white but the shrimp they eat makes them pink

I should be yellow then, from all the beer.
