| I actually just watched National treasure the other day. Heard all the hype about the new one and thought I'd check out the old one first. I liked it, I'm like HECk conspiracy theory, Mason and Templar legend, and a quirky sidekick does it for me. | |

| 'Juno': Birth of a Big HitDisney's National Treasure: Book of Secrets stayed at the top of the box office for the third consecutive weekend with an estimated $20.2 million. But the big story was the rise of Fox Searchlight's Juno to No. 3 on the list with $16.2 million, just a notch below I Am Legend, which earned $16.4 million. When final figures are released today (Monday), rankings of the two runner-up films could well be reversed. Also performing strongly was the critically praised Atonement, which came in at No. 10 on the list of top films with $5.1 million despite playing in only 538 theaters. Overall, the box office was up about 7 percent above the comparable weekend last year. Meanwhile, I Am Legend remained the No. 1 film overseas for the third weekend in a row, with ticket sales of $34 million, according to studio estimates. The Golden Compass, a disappointment domestically, remained in second place overseas with $29 million. It has now taken in $232 million abroad compared with $62 million in North America. The top ten films at the box office over the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media by Numbers: 1. National Treasure: Book of Secrets, $20.2 million; 2. I Am Legend, $16.4 million; 3. Juno, $16.2 million; 4. Alvin and the Chipmunks, $16 million; 5. One Missed Call, $13.5 million; 6. Charlie Wilson's War, $8.2 million; 7. P.S. I Love You, $8 million; 8. The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, $6.3 million; 9. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, $5.4 million; 10. Atonement, $5.1 million. | |

| Rambo Meets the Spartans, LosesThe low-budget Meet the Spartans, a spoof of last year's 300 from Warner Bros., earned as much as it cost to produce at the domestic box office over the weekend, taking in an estimated $18.7 million and edging out Rambo, from Lionsgate and the Weinstein Co., which finished in second place with about $18.2 million, according to box-office trackers Media by Numbers. The two films knocked last week's winner, Cloverfield to fourth place. After grossing $44.3 million over the four-day Martin Luther King Day holiday, Cloverfield garnered just $12.7 million in its second weekend, a 72-percent drop. It was beaten by the film it trounced a week ago, 20th Century Fox's 27 Dresses. Debuting in fifth place was Sony's Untraceable, which took in a better-than-expected $11.2 million. Continuing to amaze was Fox Searchlight's Juno, which passed the $100-million mark an upped its gross from last week despite losing some 100 theaters. The top ten films for the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media by Numbers: 1. Meet the Spartans, $18.7 million; 2. Rambo, $18.2 million; 3. 27 Dresses, $13.6 million; 4. Cloverfield, $12.7 million; 5. Untraceable, $11.2 million; 6. Juno, $10.3 million; 7. The Bucket List, $10.2 million; 8. There Will be Blood, $4.9 million; 9. National Treasure:Book of Secrets, $4.7 million; 10. Mad Money, $4.6 million. | |

Dame dudes who did Epic Movie and Date Movie, so it's no surprise, really.

| It's a spoof movie. I've heard nothing but shit about it. Spoof movies these days have not been getting good press. I probably won't watch it. Never saw Date Movie, either. I miss the Zuckers. Police Squad/Naked Gun, Top Secret, Airplane... those were f'n funny spoof flicks. Speaking of Top Secret, I haven't seen that movie in forever. I got my uncle a DVD set of the Zucker movies. Wish I would have kept it. -HECK! | |

| I haven't enjoyed a spoof flick in ages. I liked Scary Movie when it came out, because it was good timing and they had some pretty good laughs... though the movie is tired, and the series is just in overkill mode. The second scary movie was already too much (worst. movie. ever.).
The guys who did Epic Movie, Date Movie and this new one also did Spy Hard years ago, so I give them props for that (not the best Leslie Nielson flick, but alright).

| 'Jumper' Warps to the Top The reviews were nearly universally dreadful, but 20th Century Fox's Jumper, starring Hayden Christensen, managed to jump to the top of the box-office charts over the weekend. Opening along with most other new movies on Thursday, Valentine's Day, the film took in an estimated $33.9 million in its first four days -- and $27.2 million between Friday and Sunday, the "official" weekend. Surprising analysts, Disney's, Step Up 2 the Streets, its urban version of High School Musical, shot to second place with $19.7 million ahead of The Spiderwick Chronicles, which earned $19.1 million over the weekend and $26.8 million since Thursday. Universal's romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe debuted in fifth place with $9.7 million, behind last weekend's top film, Fool's Gold, which took in $13.1 million. Overall, the box office registered $119 million in ticket sales for the top 12 films, off 16 percent from the comparable weekend a year ago.
The top ten films for the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media by Numbers:
1. Jumper, $27.2 million; 2. Step Up 2 the Streets, $19.7 million; 3. The Spiderwick Chronicles, $19.1 million; 4. Fool's Gold, $13.1 million; 5. Definitely, Maybe, $9.7 million; 6. | I saw Enchanted on the weekend. I have to say I liked it. It started off like it was going to take itself a bit too seriously, and it did in a way, but it had some very funny moments. It was corny at times too, but it was, after-all, a kid's movie.

Meant to put my previous post in the "last movie watched" thread. Hoo rah to me for paying attention to what I'm doing.

And that's too bad, because I thought that it could have had the possibility to be a good movie. But after finding out that he gets this power, and does NOTHING with it, but blow off helping people, made it suck, in my mind. I would have used it to make a difference, even if it meant still doing things for myself.

| Fuck that, if I had a sweet power like that I would use it to get me some scrilla fo sho. I think the flick had solid box office success because there wasn't really much else to see. I think Tyler Perry's movie of the month is coming out soon, so that should take over a slow weekend. Now if I'm being a dick let me know, but does it seem there is a black family comedy coming out every other week? Not trying to be racial, just saying. -HECK! | |

| I haven't seen one coming out since "Are We Done Yet." Maybe one other, I forget.
As for Tyler Perry, I hate that dick's stuff. I mean, nothing to do with the crossdressing and all of that, and granted I've only watched one of his movies, but it was really bad. They had this woman crying every ten seconds saying her mum got her step father to bang her, and she was cool with that, and then her mother's like "so what" and then the woman's sister is like "gees, is my mum a bitch or is my sister just a whiner?"
I mean... come on... what the fuck is that?

| 'Prom Night' Slashes Box Office After a series of horrible performances at the box office by horror flicks, Sony's Prom Night graduated with honors over the weekend as it took in $20.8 million, far more than the studio said that it expected -- and about what it cost to produce. It beat the Keanu Reeves cop drama Street Kings, which opened with $12.5 million, by a wide margin. Overall, the box office grossed $95 million down from $118 million for the comparable weekend a year ago -- a drop of 19.6 percent. Through the first 15 weeks of the year, ticket sales are off 3.5 percent and attendance, 6.6 percent from last year.
The top ten films over the weekend, according to final figures compiled by Media by Numbers (figures in parentheses represent total gross to date): 1. Prom Night, Sony, $20,804,941, (New); 2. Street Kings, Fox Searchlight, $12,469,631, (New); 3. 21, Sony/Col, $10,470,173, 3 Wks. ($61,738,420); 4. Nim's Island, 20th Century Fox, $9,111,667, 2 Wks. ($25,391,566); 5. Leatherheads, Universal, $6,276,665, 2 Wks. ($21,976,580); 6. Horton Hears a Who!, 20th Century Fox, $5,920,566, 4 Wks. ($139,548,920); 7. Smart People, Miramax, $4,092,465, (New); 8.
