The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has just taken possession of what appears to be a pair of lungs that were found on a South Los Angeles sidewalk Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for Sgt. Pauline Panis of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department confirmed to The Huffington Post that the coroner arrived at the scene of discovery, the 13100 block of Avalon Boulevard, at around 11 a.m. Monday morning. The office then took what appears to be a pair of lungs back to the morgue to determine whether or not they are human.

The organs did not appear to be attached to a body, Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner's office told the Los Angeles Times.

The tissue will be examined either Monday or Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

This story is developing...

The thing that bothers me most about this article is the statement that they didn't appear to be attached to a body. Wouldn't that be pretty apparent?

Hahahaha, yeah they had to make that crystal clear.

But imagine if the article said the "lungs were found on the sidewalk, the body to which they belonged was ripped open and was lying nearby." Then went on to talk about the lungs alone.

Weird though. Sounds like a transplant organization lost them or something.

Well yeah, I mean usually if there was a body they would talk about the body in general. But they said there didn't appear to be attached to a body. I mean either theres a body with them or not. I'm not able to think of a senerio where that could logical be in question.
