Actor Heath Ledger Is Found Dead

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities.
The police said they did not suspect foul play. Officials said pills were found near the body.
Mr. Ledger, a native of Perth, Australia, won acclaim for his role as a co-star in “Brokeback Mountain”, a 2005 film. The film, based on a short story by Annie Proulx about two cowboys who fall in love, won critical acclaim. Reviewing the film in The New York Times, the critic Stephen Holden wrote, “Mr. Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his lean, sinewy character. It is a great screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn.”
Mr. Ledger met the actress Michelle Williams while filming ‘’Brokeback Mountain.” The two actors fell into a very public romance. They had a daughter, Matilda Rose, who was born on Oct. 28, 2005. They moved to Brooklyn, but then separated last year.
In an interview in London for an article published in November, Mr. Ledger said told The New York Times, ‘’I feel like I’m wasting time if I repeat myself.” He said in the interview that he was not proud of his latest role, in Todd Haynes’s “I’m Not There,” in which Mr. Ledger was one of a half-dozen actors depicting the musician Bob Dylan. ‘’I feel the same way about everything I do. The day I say, ‘It’s good’ is the day I should start doing something else,” said in the interview.
Calls by The Times to Mara Buxbaum, a publicist for Mr. Ledger, and Steve Alexander, the actor’s agent, were not immediately returned this

Some articles are saying it might have been drug-related. He was way too young, and a new daddy. that stinks. Michelle Williams must be freaking out. I feel so bad for her and the new kid.

I got home from work & saw this on the Internet....& yelled to my sister who had just gotten home...."NO WAY!!" She'd heard it on the radio at work & told me WAY! I can't believe it! I thought it was a hoax also! Like that tom hanks death announcement last year. I bet a ton of people will go to see the 2nd Batman now!

This is where I live, the high school Heath went to is like 8 streets away from my office, this is BIG news in Perth today. His new girlfriend, Gemma Ward, is also from Perth. The news broke at about 7.30 am our time and it was all anyone could talk about all day.

There were some rumours going round that his parents, who still live here, heard about his death on the radio as they ate their breakfast this moning. How wrong is that if it's true!! His folks live just over the river and they've given an interview to the press today but didn't say anything about how they heard the news.

His parents have released a statement saying that it WAS NOT a suicide. Although friends are saying he was severly depressed was addicted to prescription drugs & alcohol and had recently come out of re-hab and was possibly suicidal. He had a really wierd time being back in Australia over Chrtistmas and gave a strange interview to the media when he left, a lot of people thought it was wierd at the time, but in hindsight, it becomes even stranger.

I predict Batman is going to make mucho $$$ when it comes out.

PS: Some gay-hating church is telling all it's members to picket the funeral because Heath was in Brokeback Mountain. How F-ing wrong is that?

I heard about this as soon as the news broke, and I was really sad. I LOVED Heath. He was wonderful in Brokeback, but I really fell in love with him in Casanova. He was just coming in to his own, as an actor, and it's sad to see what Hollywood does. A lot of these people don't have "health" pushed in their faces... but rather, the opposite. I know that Michelle left him, last year, but now she's raising their child, alone.

Emma, I can't believe that people would say to picket his funeral because of a movie. Damn judgemental rat bastards. I say that we all go and picket the picketers, just for being ignorat dumn fucks!

To picket a funeral for any reason is just f'd up! It's a funeral! Let people say their goodbyes. Dang people suck.

I heard about it on the radio, last night, they said it was a drug overdose. Don't know if that was ruled or just speculation. either way it sucks.

Dave the movie was called A Knight's Tale.

The toxicology tests will not be in for about 10 days. More than likely he took sleeping pills with some over the counter drugs and they stopped his breathing. They say he had Xanax and Ambien in his room.

The whole thing is so sad. I feel so bad for his parents. No parent should have to bury their child. Then there is poor little Matilda, who will only know her father from film and family stories. It's just sad.

Well, it is sad, but the good thing about it is at least she does have the films and stuff, that's more than some can say. A lot of kids the lose a parent don't have anything. Yes it's sad and sucks, but another good thing is he seemd like a good guy. There is not tons of shit he wouldn't want to his to see when she got older. Like in the case of Anna Nicole's kid.

They're bringing Heath's body back to Perth to bury him here. Perth is not equipped for a media circus like this, it's gonna be a free-for-all.

Is it wrong that I am kind of excited that there'll be celebs like Michelle Williams, Naomi Watts and Jake Gyllenhal coming to Perth? No-one famous ever comes to Perth. I could have a celebrity sighting!
