| Trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMsZM-MNI1AThe Karate Kid is an upcoming 2010 martial arts film remake of the 1984 film of the same name. Directed by Harald Zwart, the remake stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Principal photography for the film took place in Beijing, China; filming began around July 2009 and ended on October 16, 2009. On November 10, 2008, Variety reported that work on a Karate Kid remake had begun. Variety states that the new film, to be produced by Will Smith, "has been refashioned as a star vehicle for Jaden Smith" and that it "will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor." On June 22, 2009, Jackie Chan told a Los Angeles Chinatown concert crowd that he is leaving for Beijing to film the remake as Jaden Smith's teacher. Unlike the original 1984 movie, The Karate Kid, the 2010 remake does not feature the martial art of karate, despite its title, focusing instead on a boy learning kung fu. The Karate Kid will be released theatrically in the United States on June 11, 2010. - Wiki | |

| I hate nepotism and in Hollywood it is rife, so when I heard this was being produced by Will Smith and just happened to star his son, I groaned, not only over the fact that they were remaking a classic, but at the casting. BUT it actually seems that Jaden Smith can actually act, well judging from the trailer anyway (no, I never saw The Pursuit of Happyness). The storyline seems alright, the casting seems OK (Jackie Chan looks SOOO old), looks pretty polished in general. I guess we'll have to see when the movie comes out.
I like the last scene in the trailer, the reference to the original movie, made me laugh.

| Jaden Smith, yeah, is actually a good little actor. He was in the Pursuit of Happyness and I'd say he was pretty good (as good as any kid actor can be). Only a little kid then, I imagine he's gotten into it a fair bit since then.
I think they originally wanted it to be the kung fu kid, but that's just stupid. Call it what it is. I'll go and see it I reckon.

| https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vNku8fGeR4Looks like it may be fun. Very similar to the original, but I think they've changed it just enough to make it stand up by itself. New location, new set of bullies, and it seems like Smith Jnr is taking off his jacket instead of waxing Jackie Chan's car. They've also made thiese kids younger, which is great I think. And then, Jackie Chan seems like he may actually be funny in this for a change. | |

| I saw this one the weekend and thought it was decent. Major plot points from the original movie were used, but then they've changed enough to make the movie stand on its own. I both like and dislike the ending. Part of it was cultural, and I get that. I love the original ending (from the original movie, I mean), and this one omits it... but the very end is kind of cool. Plot points that were used I'll put in a spoiler tag. - Spoiler:
- kid moves to a place where he knows no one (in this case, China.
- he needs to see the handyman for his building (who eventually teaches him karate/kung fu).
- Kid beats him up
- He's chased by kid and his friends and the handyman saves him.
- They visit the dojo of the bully-kid and the teacher is an asswipe
- They agree to go into a tournament
- Kid doesn't like the teacher's teaching technique and gets fed up
- The master/teacher gets drunk and mourns his lost love one(s)
- Kung fu kid hurts his leg in the tournament
- Teacher rubs his hands together to heal shit (more to it in the new movie).
But, yeah, not bad. I enjoyed it.
