| DAMN. That sucked. She was driving like a maniac. It probably would have been better if she would have died, rather than two of her kids. How is she going to live with herself, driving like an out of control IDIOT, and screwing up that bad. I'v driven like an idiot before, I'm just glad nothing bad happened. Hope she can forgive herself. She should probably do some jail time, but losing two kids is punishment enough I guess. Hit by both trains. Unbelievable. | |

I honestly hope this tortures her for the rest of her life. It's just plain horrible. | |

| I hope she suffers miserably. But who knows, for her to put her 4 children's life in danger like this, perhaps losing two of them won't phase her. Stories like this make me sick. She should go to jail and lose the other two children as well. | |

| I'd say she'll be off to prison soon, and those kids are probably already with child services. It'd be insane to let her have them for a moment longer. | |

| By Jeremy Gorner and Emma Graves Fitzsimmons | Tribune staff reporters 5:22 AM CDT, September 11, 2007 A mother caught on video more than a week ago trying to race a freight train with her mini-van in northwest Indiana, before two of her children were killed when their vehicle was hit by two trains, died of her injuries early today. Edie Bolanos, 32, of Hammond was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she had been in critical condition since the Sept. 1 crash in Hammond, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Her death comes after two of her children, Crystal Bolanos, 11, and Anahi Bolanos, 8, were killed outside the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District's Hammond station. Her two other children also riding in the mini-van were treated for their injuries at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital and released. The footage, which was captured by several cameras, showed a 1999 Mercury Villager moving at a high rate of speed through the station's parking lot alongside an eastbound freight train. The video showed the Villager turning south onto the Johnson Avenue crossing before it was struck by a westbound train, then by the eastbound train. Both freights were operated by CSX Corp. of Florida, and the crash took place on the CSX rail line, not far from the South Shore Line station. Edie Bolanos worked on the assembly line at a window company. | |

| If it was in the midwest this kind of thing is fairly common. Big ol freight trains go by at the same time every day, taking 20-30 minutes or more to go by. Traffic accidents go up radically before the trains arrive , everybody driving like a maniac on crack trying to get to whatever side of the track they need to be on | |

| Oh, yeah, I've seen that before. Pretty nuts, still. I'm not in the least bit sad to hear she's dead. I hope her surviving kids are managing though. | |
