The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
The Girl Who Played with Fire (2012)
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest (2013)

Rooney Mara will play the Lisbeth Salander role from the original movie (originally by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace... I think they chose Rooney Mara because of the similar double-o in the actress' names).

Lisbeth is a hacker who has mad skills, but is seriously troubled. She gets involved with Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), who is an investigative journalist looking into the disappearance of the niece of a prominent industrialist. Mikael was recently sentenced to 3 months in prison after losing a libel case.

These were originally made into films in Sweden, but of course US audiences can't accept subtitles (and dubbing is stupid), so they're being remade. From what I've seen of these movies they seem extremely interesting, although I haven't seen much more than the first half of the first movie. My wife kept watching and told me parts of it were terrifying. Not sure if I should just bite the bullet and finish all of the Swedish movies or wait for the US remakes (still 4 years until I can see all of them).

Rooney Mara was in the new A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, as well as the recent Social Network. Personally, I'm not impressed with her (fairly plain looking, bordering on unattractive), but if her appearance on A Nightmare on Elm Street is anything to go by she may be able to be made up to suit the character Lisbeth at least. Daniel Craig was James Bond, if you didn't know. Christopher Plummer and Robin Wright will also be featured.

I want to see the Sweedish movies. I don't mind the subtitles.

Either the second or third flick was at this indie theater up the road. Didn't see the first one yet so I have to wait.

Read the first two books. Will read the third, but I need to wait.

They are both a good a read, but so much unnecessary information. I don't need a Sweedish history lesson. And tons of extra characters that really don't add to the plot. You can shave a few hundred pages off of each, easily. And they come in at like 700 pages to begin with.

Brutal.

When you're knee deep in the story though, it's pretty intense. Graphic and violent at times, but it's quick and spread out.

Luckily the main characters are interesting. Salander is really unique, I dig her a lot.

I think so.... I know the first is on Netflix. Maybe the second. Need to check it.

Worried the remakes will be ass.

Still, I have read the first two books (will tackle the third after I finish 'The Passage', which is a helluva lot better), and now I have to see three movies two times? Balls.

That's all the time you saved not liking Harry Potter down the drain.
