I watched Alien for the first time in about 10 years over the weekend. It was probably the first time I'd watched the Director's Cut as well, which apparently had only a few additions, and had some edits to scenes which made them more intense (supposedly). It was good. I still laugh when the Alien bursts out of the dude's chest and looks around all goofy like and then runs off like he's on the end of a stick... but the rest of the movie is sweet-as.

I followed it up by watching Aliens. I tried to watch the director's cut (which I've seen probably twice before), but it dragged on so I switched to the version released at Cinemas. Frickin' Hell Cameron is brilliant. Realistically, Aliens should be a crap movie... I mean, okay, let's follow a classic like Alien up with a movie about Marines going in to a supposedly abandoned colony and get their asses kicked by lots of those aliens? It really should be a lame movie... but it's not, it's frickin' perfection.

I may watch Alien 3 soonish. I'm not sure. I remember liking it when it first came out, but I totally have no desire to watch it at the moment. I don't even remember who wrote or directed that one...

I watched Alien Resurrection last year some time. Joss Whedon wrote it, and it's pretty sweet... despite the bad reviews. It's kind of combination of the first two movies, with these kind of hybrid Aliens decking the movie out.

I'd mention Alien Vs. Predator, but I couldn't think of a bigger piece of shit movie if I tried. I mean, quite honestly, what the fuck was that? Why it warrants a sequel is beyond me.

Whid's Aliens Okie/redneck reviews:

Alien: I'd give it about a B minus. It's ok, but it's really just a horror snuff flick set in space.

Aliens: A plus. The most awesome movie ever. In my top ten movies of all time. Not one bad scene in that movie. Everything works, everything flows. Brilliant.

Alien 3: F minus. One of the worst peices of **** to ever see the silver screen.

Alien 4: It was just kind of stupid. I won't even grade it. It was aight, not as bad as Alien 3, but just felt like a waste of time. Lot of stupid cheesy moments, but a few cool moments too. I guess I'd give it a C minus. Just barely watchable.

Alien vs. Predator. I saw the last 10 minutes, and was bored as hell. Turned it off. Didn't make it to the end. Might give it a view someday if I'm drunk and it's on TBS.

Alien 3 was a pile of shit. It angered me on so many levels.

First, seeing that little chick and one homie die in the crash totally takes away from Aliens in my mind. Like all that work, all that suspense goes down the shitter.

Then they have lice so there goes the hair. Whatever. Oh, an alien sucked her face while in the tube. Bleh.

Alien 4 wasn't that bad, I really don't need to see it again, but it was alright.

Aliens was the shit, hands down. Can't top it. Ever.

Alien vs. Predator was bad. So bummed after I saw it. So much damn potential. There is a sequel coming out. It better freakin' rock.

Alien 3 did a fregin autopsy on Newt. How ******* rude was that? Made me sick inside. I never recovered. And (Johnny Ringo dude) was dead. Cool ass fellow in the other movie. It's like they went out their way to piss people off.

Yeah, Aliens 3 took away a lot from the end of Aliens, gotta agree with that.

I watched Aliens 3 last night for the hell of it. Wasn't as bad as I remembered, but it was still pretty dumb. I watched the special edition... was actually quite different. When I was watching it, I was like "huh, what's this with the big dead Ox thing? Didn't the Alien come out of a dog?" and I switched it over to the original and I was right, 'twas a dog. I'm glad they changed that for the special edition, actually.

Still.... major snoozer.

It's like the director said, "lets take everything that was cool about Aliens and kill it and make a movie about AIDS".

Which is what he did. I read an interview a long time ago, it was all metaphor for aids. That's why the bald heads etc.

So, dude kills off all the cool people, hell he even kills the robot. Shaves everyones head. Makes it so there are NO guns. Guns were a huge part of movie two.

No plot. No hope. Bunch of rapist perverts in jail for the whole movie. I only saw it that one time, but I'm still pissed about the deal. I think that came out in 92 or so, thats some old school hate to be lugging around. I need to let it go already.

No guns would've been fine. The first movie didn't have guns. I think there was a flame thrower, but that was basically it. But you also need to make a good movie. Hey, shave all the heads you want, too. Who cares right? Hairless, not a big deal. But you also need to make a good movie.

There was way too much preaching of non-sense in the movie too. None of that black dude's sermons made any sense to me. Plus, Bishop showing up at the end and saying he was the model for the Bishop robot was just lame.

The dead ox thing is what the Alien impregnates in the Special Edition of Aliens 3. In the original it was a dog. So I prefer that they didn't use the dog.

Read that Alien 3 was originally supposed to be the bomb but went through production hell, was hacked to bits and pissed on by the studio before the piece of shit we know hit the screen.

I'm sure it happened, particuarly because this is a dope ass franchise that everyone wants a piece of, and everyone has an opinion on. Sometimes I imagine Hollywood is like the company I work for, except they're making movies instead of audio gear. I bet we'd be coming out with sequal after sequal of Gigli.

The original script is no doubt online somewhere. If I cared that much I'd look it up.

To me, it's one of the worst movies of all time, if not the worst. Even if it was souped up some, it would have sucked.

The Alien Anthology blu-ray is probably the best set you'll ever come across. The special features are amazing.

No shit, the documentaries and all the behind-the-scenes features on Alien 3 are more entertaining than the movie. Probably not difficult - though I say that knowing that the movie's a guilty pleasure of mine at times. I like how they killed Newt. Mostly.
So these documentaries. There's all this shit about all the different stories they were working with before they decided on the story they used, and all the different directors and writers they went through. There's a huge section where they talked about possibly doing the story on this wooden planet. It's kind of amazing and totally effin' confusing at the same time.

I think you can get the 6 disc set for about 20 or 25 bucks if you keep your eyes open for bargains.
