| THIS THREAD WAS PREVIOUSLY: The Matrix coming to HD-DVDThat's right, suckahs! http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=19508 The Matrix is Coming to HD DVD The Matrix, the legendary, groundbreaking sci-fi film, and its visually dazzling second and third installments, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, were produced with future technology execution in mind. The Matrix, the first DVD to sell one million copies and to date a $1 billion worldwide franchise, will be part of two new definitive high definition collections to be released by Warner Home Video and Village Roadshow Pictures on May 22.
"The Ultimate Matrix Collection," for the hardcore Matrix fan, presents the complete adventures of machine battling truth-seekers Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) in all three of the Wachowski brothers' post-modern epic films. This collection will contain, for the first time, all three HD DVD versions of "The Matrix" series with more than 35 hours of bonus material in 5 double sided discs. The second offering, "The Complete Matrix Trilogy," contains HD DVD versions of the three "Matrix" films in a 3-disc set, perfect for new and current "Matrix" fans who just want to see all three "Matrix" films in hi-definition.
Both "The Ultimate Matrix Collection" and "The Complete Matrix Trilogy" come with the In-Movie Experience (IME), an exclusive interactive feature that allows viewers to enjoy new ways of accessing interviews and other material while the movie is running. For these titles, the IME will let viewers experience via picture in picture the evolution of all "The Matrix's" ground breaking elements through the recollections of the cast and creative team.
"The Matrix" Series on HD DVD is the definitive and ultimate film compilation for the ultimate hi-def format. "The Ultimate Matrix Collection" will be available for $119.99 SRP and "The Complete Matrix Trilogy" available for $99.99 SRP. Blu-ray Disc versions of both collections will be released later this year.

| This'd totally be worth buying a High-Def DVD player. | |

| Even if you purchase a hi-def player, you still have to get a hi-def television, right? | |

| Yup. And not all hi-def TVs will really show the hi-def images properly. You got to have like 1920x1080 rather than 1080x1080 to get it right. | |

| How much are they now? I haven't really looked into it. I saw a hi-def LCD TV for pretty cheap. Though I'm not in the market for a TV. The one we have isn't hi-def, but it's enormous and cost a damn fortune. | |

| You can get a low end t.v. for about 1500. A good one around 3 grand. I think, that was two years ago I was looking at them, price might have come down some. | |

| Yeah, what Dave said about the prices. I'm NOT spending $1500.00 for a TELEVISION!!! No frakkin' way. I spend about $400 - $600 for a tv, and that's it. I don't NEED to have hi-def. I'm not missing anything. I can SEE my shows. Sure, it would be nice to have a hi-def, but not at those prices. And the HD dvd's are waaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive. I'm not spending $30 - $40 on a dvd, when I get them for under $20, and usually a lot less than that. It just isn't worth it, in my opinion. | |

| Remember though, with next generation DVD's, the battle is still on between HD DVD and BluRay. One will become the next Betamax. HD TV's are all good though. Can't drop a grr on a TV set but I sure as hell can charge one and pay it forever. Hells yeah. -HECK! | |

| I don't think this battle will be as definitive as the Beta/VHS battle. I mean, from what I can see, I would think HD-DVD would come up on top, but remember the PS3 comes with Blu-Ray already built in... so that gives them a slight advantage since they will keep producing blu-ray discs for those who have the PS3 regardless of whether the HD-DVD format is more popular. | |

| Tsk, I hate to bring this thread back up because I predicted that HD-DVD would come up on top (which it so totally didn't). Or that the battle wouldn't be 'definitive'. Yes, yes, har-har... I'm a nerd. This set comes out in a day or so, though. Official site
Amazon linkI'm considering it, but I don't like the price... Perhaps I could just grab the first movie and to hell with the other two? I'll see... It seems to be the same as the 10-disc edition that came out years ago, however with a few new in-movie featurse that should prove interesting. You know how long it's been since I've watched The Matrix? No joke, probably 3 years or so. If I was to get a blu ray version of it, it'd perhaps give me reason to watch them again. I'm sure now that there's a high-def version coming, I could probably pick the DVD version up for hella cheap. That's all I really need, to be honest. Buy the first movie's blu ray disc separately... so I'll have the first movie in high def, the other two in standard - I could live with that.

| I like blu ray. I can buy flicks from the US and they work beautifully with my PS3.
When I'm out in the US this January, I'm definitely going to check out a few blu ray titles to buy. Does Wallmart sell them?
