| Freemasonry is a fraternal organization whose membership has shared moral and metaphysical ideals and — in most of its branches — requires a constitutional declaration of belief in a Supreme Being. The fraternity uses the metaphor of operative stonemasons' tools and implements, against the allegorical backdrop of the building of the Temple of King Solomon, to convey what is most generally defined as "a system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols." While it has often been called a "Secret Society", it is more correct to say that it is an esoteric society, in that certain aspects are private. From many quarters, Freemasons have stated that Freemasonry has, in the 21st century, become less a secret society and more of a "society with secrets." Most modern Freemasons regard the traditional concern over secrecy as a demonstration of their ability to keep a promise and a concern over the privacy of their own affairs. "Lodge meetings, like meetings of many other social and professional associations, are private occasions open only to members." The private aspects of modern Freemasonry deal with the modes of recognition amongst members and elements within the ritual. While there have been many disclosures and exposés dating as far back as the eighteenth century, Freemasons caution that these often lack the proper context for true understanding, may be outdated for various reasons, or could be outright hoaxes on the part of the author. Freemasons are proud of their heritage and are happy to share it, offering spokesmen, briefings for the media, and providing talks to interested groups upon request ----- -HECK! | |

| From the very minor research I have done, it looks like some dudes got together a long time ago, set up a fun little deal, and made up some symbols. Washington was among them. Some other founding fathers. Later, that one guy, whose name escapes me, wrote that book and put a lot of weirdo satanic crap in it, and then people started to spread stuff out of that book. I have known Masons, and they don't act like they worship the devil. The theorists say they don't know they worship the devil, that it's a secret. Which begs the point, how do you service and worship a being when you don't even know what's that what it's about? The dollar bill stuff was done in committee over a long period of time. It's just imagry they decided to use. | |

| But the dollar bill having something so similar to the symbol of the freemasons can't be coincidence. Hell, you know the best way to keep a secret? Have it right out in the open.

| I'm sorry, but there is a reason for that symbol on the bill, and it's right there, out in the open, like Heck said. | |

| What, the 13 steps on the pyramid and the eye? The discovery channel had a special on it recently, they showed other art from that period, and other art from the state seal, it's not the eye of horus, it's supposed to be the eye of God looking over the country, like the "in God we trust" logo. The 13 arrows the eagle holds, the 13 stars, the 13 steps, they all refer to the first 13 colonies that became the united states. The unfinished pyramid is also on either the Washington monument or the Jefferson or Lincoln monuments. I was only kind of half ass watching it. The show was on the founding fathers and whether they were masons or not. Washington was, and some of the people who did the dollar and our national seal, but most of them were not. The seal design was in several committees over years of time. It's wasnt' all done is some backroom by secret, it was all done in the relative open for those days, then I believe congress voted in the designs. So, there was Masonic influence maybe, but the design in whole was done by a large group of people, and it seemed to be the standard art/graphics of that time period. They said that most Americans were illiterate at the time, and symbols and art drawings were more elaborate back then, to help tell a picture story. | |

Exactly. And while the pyramid and eye was chosen early on by non-Mason's, it wasn't put on the dollar bill until FDR, a top level Mason. -HECK! | |
