Angelina Jolie elected a Council of Foreign Relations member

Actress Angelina Jolie has become a member of an exclusive Washington foreign policy think tank.

She will join US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former secretary of state Henry Kissinger, and top economist Alan Greenspan in the Council of Foreign Relations.

According to the New York Post, members of the Manhattan-based group accepted Jolie's nomination on Friday night.

Although the council does not demand any academic credentials from the select few it lets in, it does look for people who take part in world affairs.

"It's not like Paris Hilton is being nominated," the newspaper quoted Carol Adelman, a former head of US foreign aid programs, as saying.

Jolie has made dozens of trips around the world to campaign for refugees, AIDS orphans and disaster victims as the UN goodwill ambassador.
Her membership was also supported by current council member Gordon Adams, an international affairs professor.

"Bring her on. The idea of having Henry Kissinger and Angelina Jolie in the same organization is dazzling," Adams said.

The charter of the council, founded in 1921, is to promote understanding of foreign policy and the US role in the world. It is home to some of the world's most prominent international affairs scholars and publishes Foreign Affairs, a respected journal of global politics.

Angelina has done some wonderful work for third world countries. But then, so has Oprah. Is she being invited in too?

Come on, Oprah's not nearly as hot as Angelina Jolie.

No, Oprah isn't in the CFR. Frankly, I'm surprised that Angelina was invited to join. This group is so select, so private that I wouldn't think they would let a celebrity in. But to be honest, is there a club anywhere that wouldn't let Angelina join?

I don't think this is true. I mean look at the quotes:

"It's not like Paris Hilton is being nominated,"
from a former HEAD of US Foreign Aid Programs? sounds childish and like an amateur made it up.

and "bring her on?" well, that is just from a professor, but still. All this sounds like either these people have never done interviews before, or this isn't real.

But then, she is just a member, it's not like they're trying to make her the head or something. MAYBE. but i smell something fishy.

Actually, I agree with you. It's kinda weird for her to be nominated after such a comparatively short time doing humanitarian work around the world.
