| Howard Berger on the New Predators Movie
The new Predators movie involves a very intense group of people stranded on the homeworld of the Predators, discovering unspeakable horrors - that are not always from outside their own group! The great people at Moviehole got a chance to talk to Howard Berger of effects shop KNB about the upcoming produced Robert Rodriguez movie Predators, also directed by Nimrod Antal.
From the interview:
"I just saw some photos today and they look absolutely fantastic!," said Berger, who got his start working with Stan Winston on films like Predator and Aliens.
Berger also added that they are now in pre-production and that they "wanted to have the Predator look as it did in the original film. We went back and looked at the original. I actually worked in the shop with Stan Winston on the first film. It was great to be able to go back to the series having not been involved in any of the sequels, and it was also great to be able to make sure we built them as Stan Winston did.
"They look really fantastic. There's a whole bunch of cool [Predators] in the film, and everyone's going to be very happy that we've been very faithful to the Stan Winston designs... It's shooting very soon."
Berger, who won an Oscar for his work on the first “Chronicles of Narnia” film (and whose latest film, “Surrogates”, opens this week), so this new Predator sounds more promising everytime we get more and more info.
Predators is released on July 7th 2010

| Interesting concept, people on the Predator world instead of Predator on Earth. I think this is one franchise where nothing is ever going to beat the original though. | |

| I can't imagine how folks could last more than 20 minutes on a predator world. I mean 1 of them took out Arnie's crew in a few hours... seriously.
But this is just Aliens revisisted. Good concept none the less, not original... but looking forward to it.
Robert Rodriguez, if I remember correctly, wrote the screenplay quite a few years ago. No doubt there's been rewrites, but that's cool anyway.

| Would be funny if all the Predators were like average people. Just the ones that attack Earth are bloodthirsty. The rest speak in British accents and sit around reading the paper. Nice clothes, top hats, three piece suits. -HECK! | |

| The Alien vs. Predators were so terrible. Such potential and just a total crap fest. I like Rodiguez. He could pull it off. But I'm not that optimistic. -HECK! | |

| Second Alien Vs. Predator movie wasn't as bad, if I recall. Why they revisited it after the travesty of the first, I'll never know. | |

| I think they revisted it because the first one was so terrible, they didnt want the storyline to die with that crapfest, so they re-did it. The second one was definately better. | |

| HECK, give the second one a go (it's probably in the 2 dollar bin in most shops. You can rent it for 16 cents, no doubt). It's far from being a perfect movie... but, man, you know, it's Aliens and Predators running around a small town. Kind of bad ass in that way. | |

| Wow. Looked terrible to me, until it showed Morpheus and Machete. Them two are pretty cool.
Rest of them had that campy banter going on, the "are we not just so wise and street hip" talk.
The game preserve deal is pretty neat. Film looks good.
I don't know, I just don't know yet.

| Considering the Predators have this ultra hip, super duper technology, why are they bouncing about in the jungle? That's a bit weird. | |

| That must be the plot. They are in the jungle, but it's a game preserve on the planet.
The rest of the planet is tech world. Wall to wall city like Lucas's cornholio world the jedi live on.
Or...
they all live underground in a city.
I bet Morpheus breaks lose, enters the tech world of the Preds, and gets some nukes and kicks some Predator butt, then says "AGAIN".
Then after he whoops on them some more, he will say, "HOW DID I BEAT YOU? DO YOU THINK THAT MY MUSCLES HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH HOW STRONG I AM IN THIS PLACE?"
Then the preds will go all eco friendly on them and stop the fur trade and chicken ranches, and let the humans go, and learn a valuable lesson about being kind stewards of their home world.

| I have confidence this is going to be okay. It sounds like they're trying to mix the original Predator (which was awesome) with Aliens (which was awesome). But I just don't see how it can work.

| Ridley Scott or James Cameron directing would be the only way I figure.
Or find a director who can do what they do, which is hard..

| I didn't enjoy this movie. Not one bit. I cry thinking about how boring it was and how bad they fucked up a relatively simple concept. It was all kinds of stupid, and it ended pretty much as you'd imagine: nothing resolved, because how could they resolve shit when they're on an alien planet. 20 minutes after credits rolled they probably died. Stupid, pointless movie.
And how the fuck did they not notice a huge planet right on top of them while they were walking, why did they have to walking into a clearing to notice it. I'm sorry, they wouldn't have had to walk to a cliff to see it, they should have been able to see the fucking thing by looking up. It was all kinds of stupid.

| I thought it was alright. Then again, I noticed the same things you did, but it was never going to be Oscar-worthy, it is what it is.
The dog Aliens were stupid.
I laughed so hard when the main guy said "Come on, I'm here, Kill me now" laughed and laughed and laughed. I half expected him to say "Run, get to the spaceship" which would've really made me laugh. There were lots of little nods to the original movie, which was nice, but a little cheesy.

| Yeah, absolutely, way cheesy. The thing is, Adrian Brody is NOT Arnie. Not even close. I mean getting Danny Glover for the sequal was weird enough, this casting decision was absolutely ridiculous. He played the part well, I guess, but it was hard to take him serious at particular times.
It was obvious Venim was going to be one of those soldier of mercy doctors or a serial killer of some other caliber. Everyone else was a killer of some sort, so you knew just by the way he was kind of hanging about.
