Damn it, I WILL eat cake!!

What is with the saying "You can't have your cake and eat it too"?

If it's my cake, why can't I eat it? If I bought it, or I made it, then it's mine, I can do whatever I want with it and that includes eating it.

OK, I know eating a whole cake is probably not good for me, but that is not what the saying says. It's not "Eating a whole cake is bad for you", no, it says I can't do it. Also it doesn't stipulate the size of the cake, what if it's a small, one-serving kind of cake, then it's not bad for me. I am not on The Biggest Loser, if I want to eat a little cake, I will eat it.

I would understand it if it was "You can't have your own cake and eat someone elses" or "You can't eat everyone's cake" or "Don't eat that, that's not your cake", because, let's face it, eating someone else's cake, especially their whole cake, is just rude. And if I already have my own cake, I am probably not going to be able to eat someone elses cake too.

So what am I supposed to do with my cake if I am not supposed to eat it? Look at it? Make an ornament out of it? Worship it? NO! Cakes are made to be eaten.

It's a stupid saying!!! So just for the record, if I have cake, I will eat it. I am with Marie Antoinette on this one. Let them eat cake (just don't eat mine, get your own)!

It's a proverb that describes the instance of an individual consuming, exhausting, taking advantage of or using up a particular thing and, then, after that thing is gone or no longer reasonably available, still attempting to benefit from or use it.
