| AFTER MIDNIGHTHello, I'm Alice. That's not my real name. I'd have to be an idiot to identify myself, then go on to write a book that tells more than anyone should know about my private life and adventures and passions and crimes. Just call me Alice...
Alice usually lives in one room above a garage but when her friend Serena leaves town she goes to stay in her house. Alice enjoys having the whole place to herself with its wonderful kitchen, sunken bathtub and big-screen television. Best of all is the outdoor swimming pool.
But it all goes wrong at the end of the first day. Just after midnight. When a stranger walks out of the woods and jumps naked into the pool.
Alice watches him from the house. She hopes he won't be coming to get her - like so many men have before. But Alice is determined never to be a victim again. She wonders what to do. Then she remembers the Civil War relic hanging in the living-room. A cavalry sabre...

| Oh when she gets the call from Tony it says she told him her name was Alice and then it says "That's not really what I told him. I told him my true name, which is secret as far as this book is concerned...unless you're smart enough to find my hidden message." I had to go on a message board to get the clue because I don't see how anyone could find it if they didn't know how to look. But if you take the first letter of each chapter it spells out: Hi my name is Sadie Baneso would you like to have me for your special gal huh. | |

| have me for your special girl. Weird.
Sadie Baneso.... but then even then, she's fictional, so I don't know why it matters. It'd be funny if she was like Anne Frank living in secret for all these years.
That's not funny, she died in a concentration camp. That's not funny.

| Yeah, not funny G. It would be cool if it ended up being a character in one of his other books. LIek it says she got in trouble befor and that's why she didn't go to the cops. Maybe she's the same chatacter from another book. | |

| Ok I finally finished this one. I liked it, not my favorite but it's up there. The ending was kinda blah, I mean it was just abrupt. A lot of his books are like that. They are very detailed and get you involved in every aspect of the characters lives and theres all this shit happening and it builds up and then it's just kinda over. | |

| Okay so she's in the woods with the Simon guy who was the guy who swam nake din her pool at the begining and freaked her out and she killed Tony. No it wasn't Simon it was Steve or something, don't remember. Well call him stalker guy. So stalker guy was some lunatic that traveled around with this other guy she killed that had kidnapped okay okay let me back up and just hit the highlights of the book.
Alice is house sitting for the people who let her live above their garage while they are out of town. She spends the day by the pool and then watches some TV. She gets ready to go to her room over the garage when she sees a man come up and starts swimming naked in the pool. The phone rings and the guy comes over and starts grinding on the sliding glass door and she pretends she on the phone with the police but it’s really Tony. Tony was trying to call his ex Judy but got the wrong number. The naked guy gets off and runs away. Tony and Alice finish their convo and hang up. Alice gets her shit together and grabs a saber for protection on her way out the door. When she opens her door a guy is standing their and she whacks him in the head killing him. It turns out to be Tony. She chops him up and puts him in his trunk and drives him to what she thinks is his apartments and leaves him. She got the address from his wallet. So then she goes to his apartment with the intentions of erasing her number off his redial. Turns out its Judy’s place. Alice makes up a story about dating Tony and leaving him passes out in the woods and going to her place by mistake thinking it was his. Judy volunteers to help her look for Tony. They go to the woods and Alice likes Judy but shoots her. She kinda misses so she isn’t killed. She then beats her and assaults her to make it look like a rape and murder. Judy recovers and runs off While Alice is getting water to clean her up with. Judy is taken by Milo raped hung up. Alice finds her and kills Milo but leaves her hanging for dead after getting Tony’s real address. Next day she goes to Tony’s apartment. She gets Murphy the apartment manager to let her in and then goes to his place to seduce him black mail him so she can accuse him of rape if he goes to the police. They end up falling in love but he found out her real name. He says it while they are having sex in the bathroom and she freaks out and they fall and he smashes his head and dies. He’s a writer and was supposed to be sending out some books to a producer who might make it a movie so she does that for him on her way out. On her way home someone she used to work with passes her and offers her a ride home she takes it and offers to cook him supper. The crazy stalker guy kills the dude and takes her hostage. Turns out he hadn’t left the night before and saw her kill Tony. He was partners with Milo and saw her kill him too. So he wants to be partners with her. She some how knocks him out and ties him up with plans to make him clean up the mess and then find Judy because he says she’s still alive. He gets away but she goes after him. He finds her looking for him in the woods and ties her up. So she and Judy are tied up and he’s going to make them audition to be his partner. A fight to the death. So He’s raping Judy and Alice jumps on him and shoves a knife up his butt. He eventually dies. She then has to decide if she believes Judy will actually turn her in or not. IF not they will run off together if she thinks she will tell she has to kill her. She let Judy go. Judy holds her they decide to run off. Alice goes back to her house and writes her friend a note saying she ran into an old boyfriend and they are going off together. Sorry about all the blood, she cut herself. She can sell her car to cover the damages. Then they clean best they can, take the dead friend to the woods and then they run off together. The police find all the chopped up people in the trunks and search the woods finding the dead people Milo and dude left and figure Judy is missing but dead by the dudes and it’s a big mystery but nothing is said about Alice. Oh and Murphy’s book is being turned into a movie.

| Maybe you need to reread the book. Then again maybe not. I did a pretty good summary and it was about as entertaining too. I'm reading One Rainy Night now. | |
