Not a very happy holiday for
Michelle Rodriguez.
The former
Lost star reported to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood Sunday to begin serving her 180-day jail term for violating her probation in her DUI case.
(If the jail sounds familiar, that's because it's the same outskirts-of- L.A. facility where
Paris Hilton,
Nicole Richie and
Lindsay Lohan all served their respective sentences earlier this year.)
According to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department records, Rodriguez, aka inmate number 1107251, checked into the facility at 4:33 p.m. under her given name of Mayte. (Michelle is her middle name.)
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daviann L. Mitchell has ordered the 29-year-old actress to serve out her full sentence, with no option of work furlough, early release or home confinement.
Despite the undeniably depressing reality of spending Christmas in the slammer, Rodriguez found the time to spread a little holiday cheer to her fans. A message posted Sunday on the actress' official Website offered her "sincerest thanks for the love and support."
Rodriguez was handed her sentence in October, after she owned up to failing to complete her 30 hours of court-ordered community service. She also acknowledged drinking alcohol on several occasions in defiance of the monitoring bracelet on her ankle.
Over the years, Rodriguez's police file has been growing steadily thicker.
The
Girlfight star was sentenced to three years' probation in 2004 after she pleaded no contest to misdemeanor DUI, hit and run and driving with a suspended license.
Her L.A.-based probation was revoked last year after she racked up a string of speeding tickets in Hawaii while filming
Lost, not to mention a DUI arrest in December 2005, for which she served four days in an Oahu lockup.
In May 2006, she was sentenced to 60 days in jail for violating her probation but was released after just four hours and 20 minutes due to overcrowding.
This time around, the powers that be seem determined to make Rodriguez pay her debt to society.
Before reporting to jail, she was in New Zealand, filming a starring role in James Cameron's upcoming sci-fi thriller,
Avatar. The film is due for release in 2009.
