I took a sonnet-writing class at a medieval even earlier this year and I wrote a sonnet about comic books. The teacher wanted to publish it in her magazine, so here it is:

A sonnet 933995_377455339042157_1257747854_n

It's based on a time when I hadn't gone to my comic book store for a few months, and then when I did go, Comic Book Guy had a box full of the stuff that I like and it totaled like $60. I had just about that much spending money after I paid my bills and bought gas, so it was comics or food, and I do not regret choosing comic books. I mean, it was the new volume of Fables!

Bah, the image won't show up. It was a scanned page of the magazine. Here's the sonnet:

Oh how I wish to buy new comic books!
With the great adventure, a cunning plot,
Grizzled heroes and villains with good looks.
A larger collection is greatly sought.

Comic Book Guy knows me by sight with ease.
I come by frequently to look and drool.
He offers my favorites, trying to please,
From my stash at the shop -- how freaking cool.

But to get the comics takes all my money,
For three dollars per book is far too steep.
"How 'bout we barter?" He thinks me funny.
But... The new Fables in my hands... MUST. KEEP.

Oh FINE! ALRIGHT! I hand over the dough.
Now I cannot afford my dinner, though.

Well done indeed. Very entertaining. And try to ignore that patronizing tone that only I can hear because I am being very sincere. I have attempted to write sonnets myself before and I find they can be rather difficult, so I am genuinely impressed.
