The Princess and the Frog (2009)

An all-new Disney Fairy-tale. I can dig it. It's a return to traditional animation too, which I'm also all for. So, yeah, good job all 'round. Have to see it to make up my mind, but I imagine it will be well worth watching.

Apparently the movie is making waves (i hadn't heard, but I just read it) because the princess is black. My first thought was... so? They've had every other kind of Disney Princess, including middle-eastern and Asian, so it's about time really. And the story's set in New Orleans, which is cool. A modern day retelling of the Princess and the Frog story? Sounds kind of cool. I hope the voodoo stuff is interesting.

I took Nikki to see it. It was cute. The firefly was the best character. I didn't enjoy Charlotte the rich girl who is determined to marry a prince. The voodoo was interesting visually. They used black and a vibrant purple. Twas cool. At the end of the movie, a little girl was sobbing loudly. Her mom's quote was "Oh honey, it's Disney. You don't need to cry". Cute.

Sounds good. I'll definitely watch it when I get the chance.

I saw this movie not to long ago and thought it a lot of fun. I also watched the Nostalgia Critic's "Disney-cember" review of it where he generally positive towards it but doesn't like the music - except "Friends on the Other Side" - and says he calls it Loop-hole the movie because its go too many complicated sub-plots. I can see where he's coming from on the complicated issue but it didn't hurt the film for me and I rather like the music - especially Mama Odie's song "Dig a Little Deeper". All in all I'm glad I watched it.
