You can check my collection out here. List isn't done yet though, 'cause I only ever add to it at work... so it's all basically from memory.

OMG, Grant... I knew that you had a TON of dvds, but that's insane! Wink

And, you said that it's not all of them.

So, if you had to guess, what is the number of dvds that you own?

I honestly have no idea. They're not even together in one place... there're cupboards upstairs and drawers in the bedroom and shelves in the lounge room... I'd like some shelves dedicated to these, but what can I do? Sad

Also, in my defense, I bought a lot of them cheap or second hand (ex-video shop rentals and that kind of jazz).

That's what we do. A lot of times we will purchase previously viewed dvd's from Blockbuster. They have some great deals... 3 or 4 dvd's for $20. Smile

Shan just bought 3 for $20 today:

Superman Returns
The Da Vinci Code
Stick It

I like that... you can get great movies, they've just been viewed... used as their rentals. They are still in great condition. Smile

Yeah, we usually go to Blockbusters too. Lately we don't even bother renting most of the movies we want to see, we just wait for the ex-rentals to go down in price a bit and grab them then.

I've noticed recently a lot of TV show DVD set prices have gone down. I hope this is a sign of things to come, there's so many shows I want to see.

True, but I'd seriously buy a lot more shows if the prices were good. A DVD costs a producer only a few cents, and the packing isn't much more. You've got the graphic designing and all that stuff to deal with, and the little production costs, but after all that, they're still making a fortune on top of it for these shows, and there's really no need for it. DVDs and CDs seem to be going down in price, though, so I think they've realized the way to solve the sales slump isn't by getting the FBI to arrest people...

I would purchase a lot more shows too, if I found them for decent prices.

The one show that I really want to get:
All seasons of 21 Jump Street

And you're right... it doesn't cost them much to make the dvds. So, they are making a KILLING on them. It's amazing, if you really stop and think about it.

I was gonna say Lawless had a ton of DVD's, gabo has muy mucho.

I have about 30 or so. The ones I can think of- Die Hard trilogy, Fight Club, The Big Lebowski, Bachelor Party, Old School, X2, Swingers, Pirates of the Caribbean, DS9 season 6 & 7 (Chinese bootleg from ebay), Simpsons season 3 & 4, Friends (best of), Triumph The Insult Comic Dog, Robot Chicken season 1, Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut, Made, Star Wars Holy Trilogy,

I want to buy so many more, like all my favorites... but with HD-DVD and Blu Ray gaining steam I don't want to lay the coin. I saw the DVD revolution coming in 1996 while working at a Blockbuster and no one believed me. Same thing with the HD-DVD/Blu Ray now. The writing is on the wall. They're going to consolodate the technology and one will go the way of Beta and then their next generation players won't accept regular DVD's. Give it about 5 years. That's why DVD players are like $30 at Target now.

How much did you pay for those? Some of my DVDs are from China, but the boxes and quality are nice, so I don't give much of a toss. I heard they tend to overcharge the yanks, though.

Hmm, didn't think the Chinese DVDs were actually that popular world-wide. I'm sure the DVD distributors are doing everything they can do stop them from being produced/sold... but seriously? If someone can produce the DVD sets at that price, and you can't, then fuck ya.

I ended up winning the bid and with shipping it was like $20 - $25. And that's shipping from China. Saw the weirdo Chinese postage marks and everythign. It was cool. Almost kept the package.

The DVD boxes look cool but the pictures are kind of random. Don't really jive with that season. Overall box quality is great. Inside each DVD just has it's own little sleeve. The quality and menu is awesome. Except on a few I had to turn off the Chinese subtitles. I have no problem with them at all. It was a bitchin' deal and keep meaning to get more.

I never saw one until I ebay'd it. I will do it again for sure. I figured it was a bootleg, kind of looks like it but I don't know. Maybe that's how they do it.

Yeah, those are the same ones we get. They say they're "official chinese releases" or some shit, but they're really just bootlegged... it's just not illegal over there, I think. $20-25 bucks for 2 seasons is not bad, but the person we buy them from sells them to us for about 80 cents per disc... so, like, we got Entourage (season 1 - 2) for about 7 bucks. That's My Bush cost me about 3 bucks.

I think they said postage to the US is more, and they have to use special shipping folks to avoid customs... but there should be a way to get to know these folks and just buy direct, or bargain the price down with them. That's kinda what the Chinese always expect you to do.

The Chinese subtitles are kind of necessary for us, 'cause the wife likes them... but they're also pretty shit, from what I can see. Half the time they don't make sense, like they shoved the English into babelfish.altavista.com and just put the results there.
